MOSCOW, 2 Jun. Abrams tanks and F-16 fighter jets will not be used in the upcoming UAF counteroffensive, as they are intended for a long-term «containment strategy for Russia,» US Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley said. He is quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Everyone recognizes that Ukraine needs a modernized air force. This will take a significant amount of time,” the general said.
According to him, training of Ukrainian forces on advanced American Abrams tanks has already begun, but these systems will not be ready for a counterattack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Kiev needs new weapons in the long run, when Russia goes on a new offensive, the officer said.
Earlier in May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak discussed the creation of a «coalition on fighters» for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We are talking about the supply of F-16s, while the defense ministers of Germany and Great Britain emphasized that they are not going to supply Kyiv with more modern Eurofighter aircraft.
