The Mayor of Belogorsk in the Amur Region, Stepan Melyukov, announced the death of a 16-year-old teenager who was hit in the head at a regional MMA tournament.
The competition was held as part of the open cup of the Rodina sports club, organized by the regional branch Federation of MMA. According to Melyukov, the athletes were supposed to wear helmets, but the chief referee of the competition decided to fight without them. The deceased received a severe blow to the head, after which he was taken to intensive care, he later died.
The prosecutor's office of the Amur region began an investigation into the death of a minor. According to the publication «Amurskaya Pravda», the deceased was from the village of Arkhara, he lived in a large family. He was engaged in mixed martial arts for no more than a year, he competed as a beginner. The tournament, which was attended by a minor, was dedicated by the organizers to combat veterans.
