MOSCOW, June 5 Sales of new passenger cars in Russia increased 2.6 times in May compared to the same period last year , the analytical agency «AUTOSTAT» reported with reference to the statistics of JSC «Passport Industrial Consulting», prepared on the basis of data from the system of electronic passports of vehicles.
In a month, 72,171 cars were sold in the country.
«Fifty-one percent of cars sold in the last spring month accounted for three brands,» the agency noted.
Lada remains the market leader , whose share exceeded 30 percent (a year ago it was about 25 percent). 22,029 brand new passenger cars were sold in Russia. The second place and leadership among foreign cars was retained by the Chinese brand Chery (7,444 units). In third position is Haval with 7,432 cars sold. The top 5 also included Geely (6,690 units) and Kia (3,090 units).
Lada Granta remains the most popular model: 15,791 cars were sold in April, six times higher than last April. Haval Jolion ranks second with 3,864 vehicles (up 6.5 times). The top three is closed by Geely Coolray — 3,536 vehicles (an increase of 8 times). Next in the ranking are Lada Niva Travel — 3,210 units (an increase of 3.9 times) and Chery Tiggo 4 Pro — 3,114 cars.
