Bust of Pushkin unveiled in Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, June 6 The opening of the bust of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin took place on Tuesday near the Slovak city of Nitra, the press service of the Russian Embassy in Slovakia reported.
«On June 6, an embassy diplomat took part in the opening of a monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin in the village of Alekshinets (12 kilometers from Nitra — ed.) on the occasion of the 224th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet,» the diplomatic mission said in a statement.

According to the embassy, ​​about 70 people took part in the event.

The information notes that the official ceremony was preceded by a contest of reciters of Pushkin's poems, in which students from Slovak gymnasiums and schools participated.
«The celebrations are organized by the Slavica public association. The winners of the reading competition received from the organizer a colorful edition of Pushkin's fairy tales with a translation into Slovak,» the embassy informed.
Every year on June 6, on Pushkin's birthday, Russia and the world celebrate the Day of the Russian Language. The decision to hold the Day of the Russian Language as one of the official languages ​​of the UN was first adopted by the world organization on February 20, 2010, on the eve of International Mother Language Day.
