«Most dangerous man in America» is giving way to younger generations»
Financier George Soros, a billionaire investor and «liberal donor», has handed over control of his multibillion-dollar fund to his «more politicized » To 37-year-old son Alexander.
As The Guardian recalls, the 92-year-old billionaire who famously bet $1 billion against British pound and «broke the Bank of England» during the catastrophic financial event of 1992, dubbed «Black Wednesday», has previously said that he does not want his funds to be taken over by any of his five children.
< p>Now, however, Soros has appointed his son Alexander as chairman of one of the world's richest philanthropic foundations. “He deserved it,” said Soros, whose personal fortune is estimated at $6.7 billion.
Alexander, 37, who was quietly appointed in December, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Sunday, that he is «more political» than his father, and that he plans to continue donating family money to left-wing political candidates in the US.
His father was one of the biggest donors of Democratic candidates in US politics, writes The Guardian.
“We are going to redouble our efforts to protect voting rights and personal freedom at home and support the cause of democracy abroad,” said Alexander. “As much as I would like to extract money from politics while the other side is doing it, we will have to do it too.”
Alexander, who earlier this week tweeted a photo of himself posing with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, now leads politics as president of his father's political action committee.
The foundation, of which Alexander is vice chairman has been since 2017, donating about $1.5 billion a year to groups such as those that support human rights and «help build democracies,» notes The Guardian.
Alexander, who studied history at New York University and earned his Ph. the fund's investment committee, which oversees the management of the Soros fund, with the vast majority of $25 billion in assets under management owned by the billionaire's fund. In 2018, this foundation received $18 billion from his father.
“Given my background, there are many ways I could have gone astray,” Alexander said. “Instead, I became a workaholic and my life is my job.”
George Soros has been married three times and has five children: Alexander, Andrea, Gregory, Robert and Jonathan.
