The Krasnogorsk city court decided to send retired army colonel and activist Mikhail Shendakov to compulsory psychiatric treatment. This was reported by his colleague Elena Rokhlina.
The court made such a decision as part of the consideration of the Shendakov case on incitement to extremism (part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code) and inciting hatred with the threat of violence (paragraph «a» of part 2 of the article 282 of the Criminal Code), the reason for which was the videos of the colonel.
The new persecution of Shendakov became known in March, the case itself was initiated on January 31, 2023. In mid-March, a medical examination was carried out on the case, as a result of which experts came to the conclusion that the colonel had «persistent delusional ideas.» In this regard, the prosecutor's office asked to send him for psychiatric treatment.
The telegram channel «NO to extremism!» wrote that the basis for the persecution was the video, which «according to the expert's conclusion, contains calls for violent actions against law enforcement officers and government officials.»
According to OVD-Info, Shendakov was previously tried in similar criminal and administrative cases. In February 2021, he was given a two-and-a-half-year suspended sentence because of the video “Surkov promised war to Donbass!” on youtube. In the fall of the same year, the colonel was sentenced to three years probation in the case of a call to cut off the balls of the security forces, but a month ago the sentence was replaced with two and a half years of a real term. In February 2023, the court toughened Shendakov’s punishment for the video “Surkov promised war to Donbass!”, replacing the suspended sentence with a real one.
