Rosatom at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum agreed with Myanmar on the construction of two wind farms: 172 and 200 MW. Recall that Rosatom and Myanmar also cooperate in the field of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The corresponding agreement was signed in February 2023 by the Minister of Science and Technology of Myanmar, M. T. Zhuo, and the head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev.
The signing ceremony of the memorandum on the start of technical and economic pre-project work in the construction of wind power plants was held on June 15, 2023 on the sidelines of the SPIEF. Agreed on cooperation JSC «NovaWind» (wind energy division of Rosatom), the Ministry of Electrification of Myanmar and the Myanmar company Primus Advanced Technologies in the presence of the Director General of the State Corporation Rosatom Alexei Likhachev and Minister of Electrification of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Taung Khan.
The document spells out the organization of cooperation for the construction of wind farms with a total capacity of 172 MW in the district of Mague.
«I expect that preparations for the early development of the project will begin in the near future,» said the general director of NovaWind JSC. Grigory Nazarov. — Rosatom has been actively cooperating and strengthening relations with the Republic for many years, and I am sure that this project – the beginning of a long and successful partnership in the field of wind energy.
Myanmar's Minister of Electrification, U Taung Khan, noted that Myanmar is committed to setting an unconditional goal of using renewable energy sources at 11% by 2030. It is planned to build 18 wind farms with an installed capacity of 2260 MW, including projects from the memorandum signed today. We are pleased that Rosatom and Myanmar companies will cooperate in projects in the field of wind energy.
The signed document also provides for pre-project work on the construction of a 200 MW wind farm in the villages of Kyaukpadaung and Nyaung-U in the Mandalay region in Central Myanmar.
