Sergey Mukhametov, Senior Lecturer, Department of Oceanology, Faculty of Geography, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, said that it would be impossible to save the crew of a tourist bathyscaphe, which disappeared at a depth of more than 3.5 kilometers in the Atlantic Ocean, where the wreckage of the Titanic is located, unless the device itself floats to the surface.
On Monday, OceanGate Expeditions confirmed that communication with the submersible and five crew members was lost approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes after their dive on Sunday.
The submersible has four days of air supply.
Mukhametov noted that it was impossible to quickly arrive in this area and dive on another bathyscaphe, and if the crew could not ascend on their own, then it would be impossible to save them.
The scientist explained that the most difficult thing in this operation — depth exceeding 3.5 kilometers. At such a depth, no one can be saved, unfortunately.
However, if the bathyscaphe rises closer to the surface of the ocean, patrol aircraft will be able to detect it and then it will be possible to send a ship to it in order to carry out a successful rescue operation.

Earlier it was suggested that the bathyscaphe could get stuck in the wreckage of the Titanic, and there was also a version about a malfunction in the ballast air displacement system, but this has not yet been confirmed.
