DOHA, Jun 20 United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) will launch a satellite into space from the Russian Vostochny Cosmodrome on a Soyuz-2 carrier rocket, the press service of the Dubai government said on Twitter on Tuesday.
«On June 27 at 15:34 UAE time (14:34 Moscow time), MBRSC will launch its first PHI-Demo mission from the Russian Vostochny Cosmodrome using a Soyuz-2 rocket as part of the payload deployment initiative», — noted in the message.
According to the center, the modular satellite platform was created in 2022 as part of the payload deployment initiative (PHI) in in partnership with local and UK-based OQ Technology and SteamJet, it includes an IoT connectivity device that will store and forward data collected from internet-connected devices located in remote areas using the fifth generation of 5G mobile communications.
According to the Russian authorities, the PHI-Demo spacecraft will be a passing load during the launch of the Meteor-M 2-3 hydrometeorological satellite. The UAE has launched several satellites into space since 2006, and in 2020 sent the Al-Amal space probe to Mars to study the planet's climate.
