International Olympic Committee ( The IOC) will later return to the issue of sports officials from Russia who supported the special military operation, including the head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov, said IOC communications director Mark Adams.
“Now it is important to decide on the athletes, and not on the officials. We will return to this issue later, but Pozdnyakov is not an IOC member. We are currently working on what concerns Belarusian and Russian athletes,” Adams told the German journalist Deutsche Welle when asked why Pozdnyakov was not sanctioned.
Earlier, IOC Executive Director Christophe Duby said that a decision on the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games has not yet been made.
In March, the IOC Executive Committee recommended that athletes from Russia and Belarus be admitted to international tournaments in a neutral status, subject to a number of criteria.
