Turkish lira hits new low after central bank decision to raise rates

MOSCOW, June 22 The value of the Turkish lira against the dollar on Thursday updated its historical low and for the first time overcame the psychological mark of 24 lira per dollar after the decision of the Turkish Central Bank to raise the rate, according to trading data.
As of 14.44 Moscow time, the dollar rate against the Turkish lira rises by 2.4%, to 24.136 lira per dollar from the previous closing level of 23.5708 lira. The indicator is above 24 lira per dollar for the first time.
Earlier on Thursday, the Central Bank of Turkey for the first time in more than two years raised its key rate — to 15% from 8.5%, analysts had expected the rate at around 21%. The last time the Turkish Central Bank raised the key rate in March 2021 — to 19% from 17% .
