«The Supreme Court of the Lugansk People's Republic issued a verdict in a criminal case against a flamethrower of the 81st Airborne Assault Brigade Yevgeny Kozlov. He was found guilty of … attempted murder of two or more persons, committed in a generally dangerous way motivated by political and ideological hatred, and cruel treatment of the civilian population,» the GVP said in a statement.
As the Investigative Committee clarifies, on April 2, 2022, Kozlov in the city of Rubizhny received an order from a commander with the call sign Leitnab to destroy civilians who were trying to evacuate to the Russian zone. Kozlov chose a minibus with civilians as a target and fired two rounds of thermobaric ammunition. As a result, the bus caught fire, and a woman on board was injured.
During the preliminary investigation and in court, Kozlov fully admitted his guilt and repented of his deed. The criminal case against the commander who gave the illegal order has been separated into a separate proceeding.
«The court sentenced Kozlov to 15 years in prison to be served in a strict regime penal colony,» the release states.
