A Perm photographer who left Russia said that a criminal case had been opened against him for «discrediting» the army

A criminal case was opened against a photographer from Perm, Yakov Ovchinnikov, for «discrediting» the army. He himself announced this on Facebook.

According to 56-year-old Ovchinnikov, who left Russia after the war, today his relatives were interrogated, and the new owner of his former apartment was searched.

What was the reason for the criminal case on «discredit» (Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code), is still unknown. In April 2022, Ovchinnikov was fined 30 thousand rubles under a similar administrative article (20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) for a post about the war. “What is a mobile crematorium in the Russian armed forces. In the best case, mothers will be returned the urn with the ashes of their murdered son, if they want, and they will not be listed as missing, so as not to burden themselves with «all sorts of little things,» the Permian wrote.

The court then did not take into account Ovchinnikov’s disability and called as an aggravating circumstance the fact that a year before, in May 2021, a man had already been fined for reposting the announcement of a rally in support of Alexei Navalny (Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

Ovchinnikov on the day of the Russian invasion to Ukraine on February 24, 2022, he photographed Perm residents who went to the city center with protest posters, and on March 6 he was detained at another anti-war rally. «Idel.Realii» then laid out the monologues of the protesters recorded by him at the police station. After his departure from Russia, the photographer filmed actions abroad.
