MOSCOW, June 26. Dean Smith died at 91 after a battle with cancer, writes The Hollywood Reporter.
In 1952, as a sprinter, he won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Helsinki. And later became one of the most famous and respected Hollywood stuntmen. Smith has appeared in a dozen films, doing stunts instead of John Wayne.
He got into the film industry thanks to actor James Garner. Appeared in seven films with Paul Newman, including «Cat on a Hot Roof», «Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid» and others.
He was Dale Robertson's stunt double on The Wells Fargo Stories (1957-1962), Blood on the Arrow (1964), Stallion of Steel (1966-1968).
He can also be seen in the projects «Autumn in Cheyenne», «Jeremiah Johnson» and many others.
