MOSCOW, 30 Jun. The direct involvement of NATO troops in the conflict in Ukraine could lead to the risk of the use of nuclear weapons, Alexander Hill, professor of military history at the University of Calgary, writes in an article for Asia Times.
«Further escalation, possibly involving troops NATO may indeed lead to the use of nuclear weapons. Fortunately, the debate in Russian political circles about the possibility and readiness to use nuclear weapons remains very hypothetical, at least for now.
The article notes that for the counter-offensive, Ukraine has gathered a significant amount of Western equipment and a large number of troops, but most of them, of course, are already involved, and the losses were significant.
«After several weeks of fighting, it becomes clear that the earlier optimistic expectations regarding the success of this counter-offensive are unlikely to materialize,» Hill writes. no matter what technology the West provides, and additional resources sent to Kiev may strengthen its position, but are unlikely to be decisive.
