“The investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Komi initiated a criminal case on the fact of the spill of an oily liquid on the territory of the Yuzhno-Oshskoye oil field with contact with the soil and the Kolva River on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Article 247 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation rules for the handling of environmentally hazardous substances and wastes that have led to environmental pollution),” the statement reads.
It is noted that the investigators, together with representatives of other authorized bodies, went to the scene. Water and soil samples will be taken for the necessary forensic examinations.

On Sunday, it was reported that on the territory of the Usinsk urban district, a high alert regime was in place after the failure of the Nobel-Oil pipeline at the Yuzhno-Oshskoye oil field. There was a spill of oily liquid, part of it fell into the Kolva River. The UK and the prosecutor's office announced the start of the audit. The head of Rosprirodnadzor, Svetlana Radionova, said that a thousand cubic meters of oil from the oil pipeline could have entered the Kolva River in Komi, causing serious damage to the environment.

The head of the Komi Republic, Vladimir Uyba, said on Monday that there is no threat to settlements and water supply facilities after the spill of an oily liquid, residents are provided with water from water wells. The consequences of the oil spill are currently being eliminated. According to the authorities, according to preliminary information, the area of ​​soil cover pollution is about 0.9 hectares. The rescue teams “Ekospas” and “Ekosfera” were involved in the liquidation of the consequences of the accidental spill, booms were installed. Work on cleaning up the contaminated area continues around the clock.
