Russia has the right to share Western secrets with its allies
Former Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announced that our troops got almost a whole Franco-British long-range aviation cruise missile Storm Shadow. This is an advanced achievement of Western design thought, only recently adopted. The cost of one rocket is more than two million US dollars. Experts told what the real value of this trophy is.
So far, there are no details of how our troops captured the western missile in almost complete safety – with an engine, warhead, electronic brains. Most likely, the electronic warfare troops distinguished themselves, who managed to «land» StormShadow. Although anti-aircraft gunners could work. The missile fell in the neutral zone, from where it was evacuated, not without risk, by the special forces of the Bars detachment.
As Dmitry Rogozin noted, the missile will be handed over to one of the defense enterprises, where the ammunition will be «dissected» in order to obtain valuable military-technical information. Thus, former US Army officer Stanislav Krapivnik called another Russian trophy a valuable gift. It will help to find means to counter Western missiles, improve its developments and strengthen its position in the global arms market.
It is no coincidence that a whole hysteria broke out in the West on the occasion of the Storm Shadow falling into the hands of the Russians. The Indians, on the contrary, admired such a trophy, calling it a «great victory».
It so happened that, while recklessly supplying Ukraine with its weapons, the West involuntarily shares its most important military technologies with Russia. On the other hand, why only with Russia? Here is the scientific director of GosNIIAS, Academician Yevgeny Fedosov, in 2017, spoke in an interview with RNS about several cases when American missiles that fell into the hands of Soviet developers, thanks to the allies, helped to master the most advanced missile technologies.
So, the prototype of a successful rocket of one of the most massive aircraft – The MiG-21 served as the American Sidewinder, which the Chinese handed over to the USSR after the armed conflict with the United States. At the Soviet research institute, Fedosov recalls, the American rocket was «figured out» like a charade. and admired the «very elegant solution.»
“As a result,” Fedosov noted, “we reproduced the American missile, adapted it and put it into service.” By the way, she helped in the development of anti-tank missiles and some guided anti-aircraft missiles. in the 70s, another trophy helped in part — the American Sparrow rocket.
Significant in this story is that Russia often received Western spoils from its military allies, such as China. Now Russia also has reliable partners who are not very fond of the United States and the collective West, with whom it could well share the Western «know-how» that fell into its hands. Why not? The same China or Iran, I think, would not refuse such military-technical assistance.
The channel «Military Chronicle» listed the key elements of Storm Shadow, the study of which may be useful to us. This is, firstly, a rocket body made of composites, which reduces its radar and thermal visibility.
Of exceptional interest is the TRI 60-30 turbojet bypass engine. Including the composition of the alloys from which its blades and nozzle are made, as well as the engine control system. The warhead is also important to study. Especially the cumulative charge of the BROACH combined warhead.
Well, and most importantly, the electronic filling: flight control units, satellite and inertial navigation equipment, an infrared sensor for correcting the trajectory at the final stage of the flight, sensors for separating the rocket from the aircraft -carrier.
The software loaded into the control on-board computer is also very important. The flight task will make it possible to understand which combat scenarios are being considered, as well as which flight modes are standard for it and which are critical.
The purpose of the study is clear — to save time on developing our own analogues, to create electronic warfare equipment for combating only with Storm Shadow missiles, but also French Scalp, German TAURUS, American JASSM.
By the way, Dmitry Rogozin hinted that Storm Shadow – far from our only valuable trophy. Expect sensations, he promised.
