About 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus will be able to take part in Asian Games, which will be held this fall in the Chinese city of Hangzhou. According to the sports publication Inside the Games, the decision was made by the Asian Olympic Committee.
Participation in the Asian Games will allow athletes to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. At the same time, according to Inside the Games, athletes from Russia and Belarus will compete without national symbols, and their results will not be displayed in the official medal standings of the countries.
After the start of the war in Ukraine, the International Olympic Committee recommended that sports federations and competition organizers not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in them. The decision on the possibility of their participation in the Paris Olympics, even under a neutral flag, has not yet been made.
