MOSCOW, July 9, Vasily Bogdanov. At the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL) there is no signed memorandum, but the parties continue to respect each other's contracts, the KHL press service said.
“There is no physically signed memorandum between the leagues, while both sides continue to comply and respect each other’s contracts as a partner, exchange e-mails on work issues and be guided by its standards in their work. At the same time, the KHL believes that the situation with Ivan Fedotov does not fall under the memorandum, since the player does not have a signed current contract with the NHL club for the 2023/24 season in the sense that is laid down in the document,» the statement said.
In 2022, Fedotov signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers NHL club, but was detained at the military registration and enlistment office and sent for military service. The NHL says that Fedotov's contract with Philadelphia was frozen for a year and should be valid in the new season. At the same time, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) announced the registration of a hockey player's contract with CSKA for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the NHL and the KHL has been in effect since 2010 and has been regularly extended. In March 2022, the NHL suspended this memorandum.
