MOSCOW, July 17 Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal will enable countries friendly to the Russian Federation to increase purchases of Russian grain, said the deputy chairman of the board of the Association of Producers and Suppliers of Food Products (Rusprodsoyuz «) Dmitry Leonov.
Russia on Monday notified Turkey, Ukraine and the UN that it was opposed to extending the grain deal. This means the withdrawal of Russian guarantees for the safety of navigation and the curtailment of the maritime humanitarian corridor in the northwestern Black Sea. For this area, the regime temporarily dangerous for navigation is being restored. Thus, without the participation of Russia, the Black Sea Grain Initiative ceases to function from July 18.
«Russia's withdrawal from the grain deal will not significantly affect our market, since Russia actually received nothing from it,» Leonov said. He also stressed that «Russia-friendly countries, including China, Egypt and others, can increase purchases of Russian grain.»
«Nothing prevents Russian farmers from increasing the export of falling Ukrainian grain volumes to Turkey — after all, due to logistics, the supply of Russian products will ultimately turn out to be cheaper than from other countries,» Leonov added.
In the 2022-2023 season of the agricultural year (from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023), Russia exported a record 47 million tons of wheat, Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev announced in early July. According to him, deliveries to friendly countries occupy approximately 87% of the export structure of the agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation, including 96% of grain is sent to responsible partners.
