BRUSSELS, Jul 25 European Commissioner Janos Wojciechowski said at a press conference in Brussels.
According to him, the EU needs to support such transportation, including through the EU budget.
Earlier, Lithuania proposed to transfer the procedures for customs and phytosanitary clearance of Ukrainian grain from the Ukrainian-Polish border directly to European ports, waiting for Poland's consent.
«We need to consider significant support for transportation. I will present this position to the European Commission, because we need to find a solution how to support the cost of transportation, including through the EU budget, because there is a risk that Russia will become the beneficiary of this situation, since it will be cheaper to buy grain from Russia than to pay for Ukrainian grain transported through Poland to the Baltic ports. The cost of such grain will be significantly higher than Russia offers on the world market for its products,» the European Commissioner explained according to the results of the meeting in Brussels of the Council on Agriculture of the EU.
