The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland (Part 3 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code) after a bust of USSR hero Sergei Oreshkov was doused with black paint in one of the parks of Ulan-Ude. This was reported by the press service of the regional department of the department.
As clarified by the security forces, the incident occurred on July 6 in the park of culture and recreation named after Oreshkov. A 46-year-old resident of a suburban village was detained as a suspect in the case — during interrogation, he «gave detailed testimony about the circumstances of the desecration of the monument,» the Investigative Committee specified. The man was charged.
According to investigators, in June he received an order in one of the messengers for money «to commit actions aimed at desecrating a monument in Ulan-Ude.» After that, a resident of the republic doused the bust of Oreshkov with black paint and sent a photo report — subsequently the payment was transferred to him, according to the security forces.
