The Moscow City Court changed the measure of restraint for Deputy Minister of Digital Development Maxim Parshin, suspected in the case of a bribe on an especially large scale (part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code), and sent him to a pre-trial detention center. This was reported by the press service of the capital's courts.

The prosecutor insisted on arresting the official, arguing that he «can use his position to influence witnesses, including threatening them.» In addition, the prosecution believes that Parshin may hide, as he «has deposits in a foreign bank.»

In mid-July, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow sent the official under house arrest. State Duma deputy from United Russia Alexander Khinshtein reported that Parshin was detained on July 12 while receiving a bribe of 3.5 million. The money, according to the parliamentarian, he received for helping to allocate grants.

A TASS correspondent from the courtroom said that Parshin does not admit his guilt.

Maxim Parshin has been Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development since August 2018. Prior to that, he worked at the Ministry of Economic Development and the Russian Post.

The prosecution asked from the very beginning to send the official to a pre-trial detention center.
