MOSCOW, Aug. 3 The Moscow City Court upheld the 16-year sentence of Dmitry Zakharchenko, a former Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, in the case of bribes in the amount of 1.4 billion rubles, reported in the press service of the court.
«The verdict of the Presnensky district court of the city in terms of terms of imprisonment was left unchanged,» the press service said.
In May last year, in conjunction with the previous sentence, the Presnensky Court of Moscow sentenced Zakharchenko to 16 years in a strict regime colony. The other three defendants in the case of bribery for 1.4 billion rubles received terms of 7 to 8 years in prison.
Zakharchenko, who oversaw the fight against crime in the fuel and energy complex, was detained in the fall of 2016 for several episodes of corruption and subsequently sentenced to 12.5 years in prison.
The story received a huge response after the media became aware of the discovery in the apartment of the colonel's sister of a warehouse with almost 9 billion rubles in different currencies. Zakharchenko could not explain the origin of this money, now they are withdrawn to the state treasury.
