MOSCOW, 7 Aug The Soyuz-2.1b rocket, which will launch the first domestic lunar station Luna-25 in almost 50 years, was assembled at the Vostochny cosmodrome, the press service of Roscosmos reported.
«Today, at the Vostochny cosmodrome, specialists from the enterprises of the Roscosmos state corporation completed the general assembly of the Soyuz-2.1b space rocket with the Luna-25 automatic station,» the report says.
«Later, the state commission allowed take out and install the rocket at the launch complex of pad 1C on August 8. The launch of the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the Fregat upper stage and the Luna-25 automatic station is scheduled for August 11 at 02:10.57 Moscow time,» the press service added.
«Luna-25» will have to work out the technology of soft landing, take and analyze the soil and conduct long-term scientific research, including the study of the upper layer of surface regolith in the region of the South Pole of the Moon, as well as the lunar exosphere.
«Luna- 25» will be the first station to make a soft landing in the circumpolar region with difficult terrain. All of its predecessors landed in the equatorial zone.
