Lukashenka approves draft agreement with Russia on trucking

MINSK, Aug 9 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko approved a draft intergovernmental agreement with Russia on international road transport as a basis for negotiations and signing, according to a document published on the national legal portal.
«Approve the draft agreement between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation on international road transport as a basis for negotiations,» the decree says.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus is empowered to negotiate a draft agreement, it is allowed, if necessary, to make changes that are not of a fundamental nature. The Ministry of Transport is also vested with the right to sign an agreement upon reaching an agreement within the approved project.

Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoy said earlier that Belarus and Russia agreed that from 2024 they would start implementing a four-stage plan to liberalize international road transport to third countries. According to him, it is planned that from January 1, 2024, these permits will be canceled with Serbia and the Balkan countries, from 2025 — within all CIS countries, from 2026 — with all EU countries and the UK, and from 2030 — in general with by all countries. The ambassador also noted that investment cabotage would be allowed immediately, literally from the moment the agreement was signed.
