“I left my unit because there was a man at the top of the food chain who harassed women. They were persecuted by the same man who essentially told them that if they refused to have sex with him, he would send their husbands to their deaths,” she said, explaining that the couple served under this military man.
According to the servicewoman, women were threatened to be sent to psychiatric hospitals for trying to talk about what was happening. Garan explained that she was forced to request a transfer to another unit after she was ordered to «shut up» when trying to draw attention to this situation.
Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar later said she intended to meet with the victim.
