MOSCOW, Aug 27 Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview that wants to equate corruption with treason for the duration of martial law.
«I set a task, the legislator will be offered my proposals on equating corruption with treason for wartime. Whether the legislator will support this law, I don't know, but I will definitely propose it,» Zelensky said on the air of the All-Ukrainian telethon.
In his opinion, the adoption of such a decision will help to overcome corruption. He noted that such a legislative initiative could be submitted to parliament within a week.
According to the law of Ukraine, treason during martial law provides for a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
A martial law regime has been introduced in Ukraine since February 24, 2022, the next day Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization. At the end of July, the Verkhovna Rada extended martial law until November 15, 2023.
