Screenings of films about Stalin's repressions canceled at the Gulag History Museum

The Gulag History Museum has canceled screenings of the films Captain Volkonogov Escaped and For You and Us, which show the consequences of Stalinist repressions, scheduled for August 26. Art critic Ksenia Korobeynikova drew attention to this.

There is an announcement of the film screening on the official website of the Moscow Mayor. TASS also wrote about the two evening screenings on August 26, citing the Gulag History Museum. “As part of the action "Movie Night" The museum will host three screenings of two films dedicated to mass repressions,” the announcement said. Now the page of the event on the museum's website has been deleted.

At the same time, it was indicated on the website of the capital's mayor that the event was completed on August 25, the author of the Alperina telegram channel noted.

The film «Captain Volkonogov fled» was shown at the Venice Film Festival two years ago, but it never came out in Russia because of the outbreak of war. The plot is based on the story of the captain of the NKVD Fyodor Volkonogov, who must seek forgiveness from his victims in order not to go to hell. “For You and Us” is a film about the life of a family in the months before the death of Joseph Stalin.

Earlier, the Gulag History Museum removed a post in support of the Memorial Society from its social networks, which was subsequently liquidated. “The Museum of the History of the Gulag has been cooperating with the Memorial for many years and has great respect for the work of colleagues in preserving the memory of the victims of mass repression,” wrote representatives of the institution.
