Nightmare on the road. The famous figure skater died in a terrible accident

A participant in the Olympic Games in Sochi, Canadian Alexandra Paul died in car accident. The girl made ambitious plans for a legal career, but her life was tragically cut short at the age of 31.
An unexpected debut at the Olympics in Russia, Alexandra quite unexpectedly got into the Canadian team for the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. Even at a young age, she chose to specialize in ice dancing. Her first partner was Jason Cheperdak, but she stopped working with him back in 2009. She has since been paired with Mitchell Islam, with whom they later develop romantic feelings that eventually lead to marriage.

But that was later, and in 2010 the couple flashed at the Junior World Championships, taking a silver medal there. This opened the way for Alexandra and Mitchell to the adult team. Before the Games in Russia, they took third place at the Canadian Championships and qualified for the Olympics in Sochi. True, the couple did not succeed there. They took a modest 18th place.

Further prospects for Paul and Islam were spoiled by numerous injuries to one or the other skater. As a result, the couple officially announced their retirement in December 2016. However, having finished with the sport, Alexandra and Mitchell stayed together already off the ice. In 2021, they got married, and a year later their son Charles was born.

New Career and Tragic Death In the meantime, Paul was trained as a lawyer and was first taken on an internship at Barriston Law, and then received an official position there. The girl dealt with real estate and corporate law. Unfortunately, the quiet life of a young family was interrupted by a tragedy on the road.

The incident involving seven cars occurred on the highway in the Canadian province of Ontario in the small town of Melancton. Paul was in a car with her son when, according to local police, a truck drove into a construction area on Country Road 124 and crashed into a line of stopped cars. Alexandra died from her injuries, and her little son was sent to the hospital. According to doctors, his life is not in danger.
The figure skater's husband's father, David Islam, who co-owns the International Training Center in Canada, confirmed the tragic news to his staff in a statement saying the following.
«The tragedy that befell the families of Paul and Islam is unfathomable. Text messages, emails were a testament to how many lives Alex and Mitch touched. As you can no doubt feel, Mitchell will need time and space to cope with the loss of his ideal partner and a mother to Charles,» David Islam was quoted as saying by CTV News.
A GoFundMe campaign launched on Friday afternoon to support the couple's young son also spoke out about the tragedy.
«As the Canadian success story tragically ended, Alex will be remembered as a passionate, determined young woman who could light up any room she walked in. Not only was she kind, educated, witty and determined, Alex was also an important figure in the international figure skating community, representing Canada at the Olympics. Alex will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother to Charlie,» the statement said.
Police say no charges have yet been filed in the fatal collision.
