MOSCOW, August 31, Andrey Simonenko. Participant of the championship match World Chess Grandmaster Sergei Karyakin said that he will miss the superfinal of this year's Russian Championship and does not expect a strong line-up at this tournament.
The Superfinal of the Russian Chess Championship will take place in Tsarskoye Selo from September 30 to October 13. Earlier, the executive director of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) Alexander Tkachev said that the country's leading grandmasters – Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Grischuk and Sergey Karyakin – had not yet decided to participate in it.
“In principle, I have nothing against the Russian championship, the tournament is strong, even despite the fact that, as far as I understand, the federation will not be able to gather the best. I don’t think that Nepomniachtchi will play, Grischuk is unlikely to play, although I don’t know about it. Leading chess players don’t participate, plus a situation has arisen that many chess players have left (abroad), so the squad will be weakened. Once again, I have nothing against the Russian Championship, it should be held, but I still I decided that I would skip it this year,” Karjakin said.
“I have two rapid chess tournaments planned before the end of this year, but until the organizers have announced it, I think it will not be very correct to voice it to me. There will be practice, although, of course, I would like some serious traditional tournaments in Russia was held more,” Karyakin added in response to a question about his immediate plans.
