MOSCOW, August 30 Farewell to People's Artist of the RSFSR, director Gleb Panfilov began in the Temple The beheading of John the Baptist at the Novodevichy Convent in Moscow, reports a correspondent.
Panfilov died at the age of 90 on August 26. The director will be buried next to his wife, People's Artist of the USSR Inna Churikova at the Novodevichy Cemetery.
In the center of the temple there is a coffin with Panfilov's body, friends, colleagues and relatives bring flowers and wreaths to him. Dozens of people came to say goodbye to the director.
“He was not just talented, but a spokesman for the era, culture, a man who remained honest,” said Soviet film critic and film critic Naum Kleiman before parting.
General director of the film concern “Mosfilm”, film director Karen Shakhnazarov called Panfilov a bright representative of the era, a truly talented one who created very human films.
“There is very little ideology in them. There is always some kind of ideology in art, there were many ideas in his paintings,” he said.
Wreaths were sent to the farewell ceremony by the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the artists of the Evgeny Vakhtangov Theater, the Mosfilm film concern, friends, colleagues and relatives of the director, and many others.
After Panfilov's death, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences, noting that he belonged to a galaxy of outstanding directors of our time, whose names are the pride of our national culture.
The Minister of Culture of Russia Olga Lyubimova, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Commission on Culture and Mass Communications Yevgeny Gerasimov, General Director of the Mosfilm Film Concern, film director Karen Shakhnazarov, People's Artist of the RSFSR, director Nikita Mikhalkov, theater director also expressed their condolences to Panfilov's family and friends. “Lenkom” Mark Varshaver, directors Vladimir Dostal and Konstantin Bogomolov and many others.
Gleb Panfilov was born on May 21, 1934 in Magnitogorsk. In 1966, he began working at Lenfilm, where he filmed his feature debut “There is no ford in the fire” (received the main prize at the Locarno Film Festival). Panfilov also shot the pictures “I ask for words”, “Theme”, “Valentina”, “Vassa”, “Mother” and others, staged performances at Lenkom and the Theater of Nations. In 1970, he made the film “The Beginning” with Inna Churikova in the title role, during the filming they got married and lived together for more than 50 years. People's Artist of the USSR Churikova died on January 14, 2023 in Moscow after a long illness.
