VLADIVOSTOK, Sept. 1 The number of flooded private and apartment buildings in Primorsky Krai, which was hit by powerful downpours, increased from 159 to 690 in a day, follows from information provided in press service of the regional Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations on Friday.
The southern cyclone covered Primorye on August 29, heavy rains continued at night and on Wednesday morning, shifting to the east. Among the leaders in terms of precipitation was the Khasansky district, where heavy rains washed away houses, and the erosion of the route with water disrupted communications with the south of Primorye. On Thursday morning, the press service of the Primorsky Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations reported that 127 private and 32 apartment buildings, as well as 1,189 adjacent territories were flooded in the region. 42 settlements were cut off from transport communication.
«In 35 settlements, 690 … residential buildings remain flooded: 45 apartment buildings and 645 private houses,» the press service of the ministry said, adding that flooding of houses is observed in 14 municipalities of the region.
According to the press service, 3,853 people live in flooded houses, including 958 children.
