WARSAW, Sep 7 Poland signed a framework contract for the production of large-caliber shells for Ukraine, RMF FM radio station reports.
«Poland has signed a 'framework contract' with the European Defense Agency (EDA) for joint purchases of 155mm ammunition,» the radio station reports, citing sources in Brussels.
EDA previously reported that it had signed eight such agreements. We are talking about joint purchases of ammunition for Ukraine and replenishment of our own stocks.
RMF FM notes that the «framework contract» does not yet contain details regarding, among other things, the types of projectiles or the exact number of them. «The signing of the document means that now the EU countries can place specific orders with Polish factories,» the statement said.
«Currently, the countries are in the process of placing orders, on the basis of which EDA will prepare joint orders for European industry,» the radio said, citing an unnamed European diplomat.
The report says that this mainly concerns the production of 155-millimeter ammunition, and «everything indicates that concrete orders will come to Polish arms enterprises this month.»
Earlier, Russia sent a note to NATO countries because of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect. Lavrov stated that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, «including not only the supply of weapons, but also the training of personnel … on the territory of Great Britain, Germany, Italy and other countries.»
