Suzuki celebrates 25 years of presence in Russia

From more than 100 years since its foundation, exactly a quarter of a century, the Suzuki brand has been present on the Russian market.

Since entering the Russian market in 1998, Suzuki has sold 325,000 vehicles, and has also actively expanded its dealer network, which is currently represented in more than 40 major Russian cities. At the same time, some dealers have been working with the company for the same 25 years, which directly indicates the stable operation of the dealer network.

We invite you to recall significant bright events and take a short historical excursion through the milestones of the brand's history in Russia.


In 1998, four dealerships and ITOCHU Corporation (the official distributor of Suzuki cars in Russia) began deliveries of the Suzuki Grand Vitara – a frame an all-wheel drive vehicle that became the flagship in the SUZUKI model line.


Russian consumers welcome the 7-seat model Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 with an increased wheelbase of 2800 mm and a length of 4685 mm, thanks to which the third row of seats appeared in the cabin.

ITOCHU Corporation announces the establishment of ITC Auto RUS LLC, which has become the official importer of Suzuki cars in Russia.


LLC “ITC Auto RUS” launched the Suzuki SX4 model on the market, opening a new segment of crossovers for Russian buyers. The Japanese company has proven that it knows and understands the Russian market well and works in the most promising segment of crossovers and SUVs.

2008 – 2009

In Russia, at the Moscow International Automobile Salon, the world premiere of the updated Suzuki Grand Vitara took place, as well as sales of Suzuki Splash started.


After the premiere at the Moscow International Automobile Salon, Suzuki Kizashi and the updated all-wheel drive Suzuki SX4 with automatic transmission went on sale. In the same year, the company changes the composition of the founders and the name – SUZUKI MOTOR RUS LLC.

2011 – 2015

Sales of several models have started in Russia: IV generation Suzuki Swift, all-wheel drive version of Swift, new crossover Suzuki New SX4, and Suzuki Vitara with the possibility of personalization.

Suzuki entered the TOP 10 car brands in terms of service satisfaction (national award “Car Dealer of the Year”, organizer ” Avtostat”) and received the “Consumer Trust” award, and was also able to repeat its success next year.


In honor of the 30th anniversary, a limited edition of the Suzuki Vitara 30 was presented. The model was released especially for Russian consumers in a limited edition of 30 pieces, each of which received a unique serial number and a special limited edition badge on the rear pillar “Vitara 30: Since 1988”.

In September of the same year, the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art (Moscow) hosted a presentation of an exclusive version of the Suzuki SX4, created in collaboration with artist Anatoly Akue. The collaboration between the brand and the artist in the field of design was intended to bring street culture closer to classical art, enriching it with new ideas and approaches. The sketches for Suzuki featured Japanese motifs emphasizing the brand's origins, and the SX4 by Anatoly Akue itself was another step for Suzuki to meet a new customer living in unison with the crazy world of modernity, providing him with additional opportunities for self-expression.

February 2019 was marked by the appearance of the updated Suzuki Vitara. It has become more modern, more comfortable, more functional, while retaining off-road advantages.

Already in June, SUZUKI MOTOR RUS presented a special version of the Suzuki SX4 Tabi powered by Pioneer car, released in a limited edition of 50 copies, together with the world the leader in the production of audio and video equipment – Pioneer.

And in August, Suzuki All-New Jimny began to be sold in Russia. This novelty, which appeared more than 20 years after the release of the III generation, was important to many buyers. The Jimny IV generation embodied the DNA of all three previous generations, retaining external similarities (exterior) and demonstrating excellent geometric cross-country ability in the element for which it was created – off-road. It remained the same real SUV, with a ladder-type frame, dependent suspension, solid axles and an ALLGRIP PRO all-wheel drive system with a reduction gear.


This year, Suzuki launched the SUZUKI PRIVILEGIA loyalty program in Russia, offering customers favorable conditions for the purchase and ownership of reliable Japanese cars. It included several areas at once: financial programs, insurance, roadside assistance services, service programs, warranty service and trade-in.

In May, in the midst of COVID-19, Suzuki began supporting Lighthouse Home by providing its vehicles to the Hospice Field Medical Service. This partnership continues to this day. Employees of the foundation's field service have already traveled more than 145,000 km on Suzuki cars, providing assistance to wards from remote areas of Moscow and the Moscow region.


Developing the adopted strategy in the field of ecology and solving environmental problems in order to form an initiative among the population of the country to switch to conscious consumption, in September 2021, on the occasion of the World Cleanup Day, SUZUKI MOTOR RUS handed over Suzuki cars to the Assembling Ecocenter for the development of a young promising direction – ecotaxi. This social project continues to work successfully to this day, saving tons of recyclable materials from landfills and transferring them for recycling.

As part of the RosAvtoDealer forum, held by the ROAD Association on November 30, 2021, the results of the DSI-2021 (Dealer Satisfaction Index) dealer satisfaction survey were summed up. In the course of the study, automakers were identified, cooperation with which car dealers evaluate as the most productive. And according to the results of the overall satisfaction index, the Suzuki brand ranked 4th.


In summer, the Suzuki brand became a partner of Russia's largest international swimming series X-WATERS. As part of the partnership, at various stages of the competition, for convenience, safety, maximum mobility and speed, SUZUKI MOTOR RUS provided the X-WATERS organizing committee with a Suzuki Vitara car.

The season continued with an atmospheric event – a high-speed competition between a Suzuki Vitara car and a train, the world's next longest railway route Moscow – Vladivostok. An impressive distance (9100 km) on a variety of roads, and sometimes off-road at the limit of human and automobile capabilities was covered in 6 days. Vitara won the competition by overtaking the train and setting the record.

And on February 16, within the framework of the 13th annual automotive business forum “ForAuto 2023. Results and forecasts of the car market”, the 9th AUTOSTAT Residual value 2023 award (preservation of the residual value of the car) took place. Suzuki Jimny this time became the leader in the Standard category in the SUV segment (B) with a residual value ratio of 134.2%.

What's next

Customer focus has become the main focus of the brand development in 2023.


Today, official brand dealers provide a high level of service for Suzuki car owners thanks to certified employees, the use of specialized diagnostic equipment and compliance with the manufacturer's quality standards.

Throughout the year, dealers offer customers to take part in service campaigns aimed at identifying possible vehicle malfunctions, helping owners to prepare their car for further operation, while using original spare parts regularly supplied to the company's central warehouse. A campaign has also been launched with the offer of original accessories at reduced prices.

In addition, the Customer Service continues to work, which receives requests daily.
