MOSCOW, September 9. Leo Tolstoy did not cheat on his wife Sophia, said Daria Eremeeva, a senior researcher at the State Museum of the Writer in Moscow. The couple have been married for 48 years.
“
"Their house was always in sight, open to relatives and friends, and after the writer’s death, for many years, memories of Tolstoy appeared, written by those who spent at least a day or two in Yasnaya Polyana or the estate in Khamovniki. None of the visitors to the Tolstoy house ever provided any evidence incriminating Leo Tolstoy, and among them there were not only friendly-minded ones,” said Eremeeva.
Tolstoy’s infidelity is one of the most popular myths about the writer. However, employees of his museums both in Moscow and in Yasnaya Polyana (Tula region) did not find any evidence of this.
In 2023, Russia and the world celebrate the 195th anniversary of the birth of the writer. Read more about the myths associated with Tolstoy in the material.
