WASHINGTON, September 12The United States is seeing an increase in security threats in the space sector, General Chance Saltzman, chief of space operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a conference on Tuesday.
“It should be noted that no space is now protected from this (security threats – ed.) and space, which is an integral part of the entire environment, demonstrates that there are more challenges in it now than ever before history,” the head of Space Command said at a military space conference in Washington. According to him, the creation of the Space Force as a separate branch of the US Armed Forces meets the conditions of the time, which he called “great power competition.”
According to him, for the most effective operation of the space forces, their constant improvement is necessary both in structural terms and in terms of equipment and training.
Space Force was formed as a separate branch of the American military system in 2019. The command's doctrinal documents state that, if necessary, US space forces can conduct offensive operations and attack objects on the ground and in cyberspace.
