BAIKONUR, September 15 Roscosmos is ready to train and organize the flight of a DPRK cosmonaut, but the decision will be made by the North Korean side , Roscosmos CEO Yuri Borisov told reporters.
““It was proposed by me that, if necessary, we could train and launch a Korean cosmonaut, but this is no longer a question for us, but for the Korean side,” Borisov said at a press conference.
At the same time, he added that the space cooperation program was not discussed in detail during the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un. According to the general director of Roscosmos, such programs are usually discussed within the framework of the intergovernmental commission.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met at the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur region. During the negotiations, they discussed, among other things, the possibility of sending a North Korean astronaut into space. As the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said during a conversation with journalists, “if the North Korean side wishes, an astronaut from this country can be trained and launched into space.”
