WASHINGTON, September 17 National Security Advisor to the President of the United States Jake Sullivan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Malta discussed the possibility of a meeting between American President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as relations between Washington and Beijing, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.
«US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Malta, where they discussed a possible meeting of leaders and other issues of relations,» the publication says.
The White House later clarified that Sullivan and Wang Yi discussed the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in the Taiwan Strait, as well as global and regional security issues.
«The parties discussed key issues in relations between the United States and China, global issues and regional security… the war against Ukraine, the situation in the (Taiwan — ed.) Strait,” the message states.
It is specified that the meeting took place from September 16 to 17 and became part of “ongoing efforts to maintain open lines communications and responsible management of relations.»
Earlier in September, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova announced that the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry will visit the Russian Federation on September 18, where he will hold negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
