MOSCOW, September 18 The ruble exchange rate began to decline against the dollar, euro and yuan after a positive start to trading on Monday, follows from data from the Moscow exchanges.
The quotation of the American currency for “tomorrow” settlements at 07:08 Moscow time increased by 15 kopecks to 96.96 rubles, the Chinese currency – to 13.28 rubles, and the European currency – to 103.43 rubles.
On At the start of trading, the dollar dropped to a maximum of 96.52 rubles, the yuan – to 13.22 rubles, the euro – to 102.76 rubles.
On August 15, at an extraordinary board meeting, the Bank of Russia raised the key rate immediately by 3.5 percentage points to 12% per annum, and the day before – to 13%. This is a new high since the spring of 2022.
The head of the regulator, Elvira Nabiullina, previously said that the ruble exchange rate does not have a “psychological level”, contrary to the popular belief that it is one hundred rubles per dollar, and the rate increase is caused by the Central Bank’s intention to “contain inflation expectations” .
