MOSCOW, September 18 President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA ) Alexander Čeferin said that Russian teams and clubs will not be allowed to participate in European competitions until the situation in Ukraine is resolved.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA published a joint statement in February 2022, according to which Russian national teams and clubs are suspended from participation in international competitions for an indefinite period due to the events in Ukraine.
“
“Russia will return to (European) football only after the end of the situation in Ukraine,” Sportklub quotes Ceferin.
The head of UEFA also spoke about breaking the sponsorship contract with Gazprom .
“”It just had to be done as some sort of symbolic act. Once the CBO starts, it's hard to advertise this company around a stadium where hundreds of millions of people watch the games. I'm sorry that's the case, but we had to do it. But It’s also a fact that the ones who cry the most about this are those who still buy gas from the same company,” the functionary added.
