DONETSK, September 19 Construction of the metro in Donetsk will begin after the end of hostilities, said First Deputy Chairman of the DPR Government Andrei Chertkov.
“After the end of hostilities in Donetsk, construction of the metro will begin,” says a message published on the government’s telegram channel.
Earlier in March, Donetsk Mayor Alexey Kulemzin emphasized that the Donetsk metro project needs to be updated taking into account modern realities, and added that the project plans will have to be “drastically” deviated from.
The decision to build a metro in Donetsk was made in 1990, construction began three years later, and has since been suspended several times. The program adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2006 implied the construction of the first section with a length of 10.3 kilometers. According to the local press, 2 kilometers of underground tunnels were dug in 2011.
