The artist German Mazurin, who created the image of Uncle Styopa, has died



MOSCOW, September 20. Russian and Soviet artist German Mazurin died at the age of 92, the Russian Academy of Arts reported.
«With deepest sadness, the Russian Academy of Arts learned of the passing of the Honored Artist of the RSFSR, honorary member, on September 19, 2023 Russian Academy of Arts, Professor German Alekseevich Mazurin,” the publication says.
Mazurin’s daughter Anna Gorbashova also reported that her father had passed away.

German Mazurin was born on August 10, 1932 in Penza. He created and illustrated more than 200 publications, including works by Russian and foreign writers: “Uncle Styopa” by Sergei Mikhalkov, “Timur and His Team” by Arkady Gaidar, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain, “Little Baba Yaga” by Otfried Preusler, «Oblomov» by Ivan Goncharov, «Kashtanka» by Anton Chekhov.
