MOSCOW, September 22 Ukraine will send military aid this year expenses are $54.1 billion, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced on his Telegram channel.
«In general, the state will allocate almost 2 trillion hryvnia ($54.1 billion) to the security and defense sector this year. Ukraine last year transferred the economy to a war footing. The entire peacetime budget is focused on the purchase and creation of everything necessary for armed forces,» Shmygal wrote.
Earlier, the Ukrainian prime minister claimed that the country allocated 100% of taxes collected from citizens and businesses to military needs. In addition to these expenses, according to Shmygal, there is also military assistance from allies and donations from philanthropists. Chairman of the Rada Budget Committee Roksolana Pidlasa stated that Ukraine has increased military spending since the beginning of the year. According to her, every second hryvnia from the country’s budget in 2023 will be spent on defense.
The Parliament of Ukraine adopted the budget for 2023 with a deficit of 1.296 trillion hryvnia ($35.1 billion). According to Shmygal, the draft budget for 2023 provided for revenues of 1.28 trillion hryvnia (about 34.6 billion dollars), expenses — 2.57 trillion hryvnia (about 69.6 billion dollars), the monthly budget deficit was estimated at three billion dollars, which Ukraine intended to cover with external borrowings.
In April 2023, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergei Marchenko said that the monthly deficit of the Ukrainian budget is about five billion dollars, the budget receives two-thirds of the funds through foreign loans and grants, while three-quarters of the spending falls on military needs. At the end of August, the Ministry of Finance reported that Ukraine's national debt exceeded $132 billion; in July it grew by four billion.
