DONETSK, September 21Ukrainian troops fired 21 NATO shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters into the Petrovsky district of Donetsk and Makeyevka, the DPR representative office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC) reported.
«Shelling from the armed formations of Ukraine was recorded in the direction: 15.55 — the settlement of Kurakhovka — the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): three shells of 155 millimeters were fired,» says a message published in the telegram channel of the representative office.
In addition, from 16.05 to 16.20, Ukrainian troops fired a total of 18 more NATO shells of 155 mm caliber into the Petrovsky district of Donetsk and Makeyevka.
Petrovsky district is located on the western outskirts of Donetsk, it is the most distant part of the city from the center. Since 2014, when the DPR declared independence from Kyiv, this area has regularly come under fire from Ukrainian security forces.
Makeevka is a satellite city of Donetsk, adjacent to it from the northeast. In 2014, the population of Makeyevka numbered about 350 thousand people.
155 mm artillery is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range howitzers M777 of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
