MOSCOW, 24 SepAbsolutely the entire infrastructure in the world — from a smartphone to a factory and a power plant — is built on unsafe operating systems, its level of security is very low, while the professionalism of attackers is growing all the time, the head of Kaspersky Lab Evgeniy said in an interview Kaspersky.
“The problem is that the entire infrastructure in the world, everything in general, is built on unsafe operating systems. At the same time, there are “holes” both in operating systems and in applications. And this applies not only to gadgets, computers, this applies to cars, plants, factories, power plants,» he said.
According to him, the situation with cyber attacks in the world is already becoming critical, “because the level of infrastructure security is much lower than the professionalism of the attackers.” He noted that all messengers, including WhatsApp, and all operating systems, including Android and iOS, which were attacked in June, are also unsafe, but the vulnerability of critical infrastructure worries him more.
«I am much more concerned about industrial safety, this is the main focus, the main headache. Because if someone hacks global WhatsApp, yes, there will be damage, it will be very unpleasant, but this is not comparable to a strike on critical infrastructure in any region,” Kaspersky explained.
Earlier in September, Roskomnadzor announced that it would require WhatsApp to remove unfriendly channels with prohibited information; refusal could lead to blocking of the application in Russia (this week WhatsApp launched channels for users in more than 150 countries). The regulator’s press service then recommended that Russian organizations and users switch to domestic services that operate in Russian jurisdiction and comply with Russian legislation.
In addition, in June, the FSB announced the discovery of an intelligence campaign by American intelligence services related to the infection of thousands of iPhones, including those registered to foreign embassies in Russia. In addition, Kaspersky Lab reported the discovery of a targeted cyber attack on Apple devices of company employees around the world.
