MEXICO CITY, September 23 Mexico condemns the invasion of Ukraine and recognizes It is the right of countries to have the means to restore territorial integrity, but the ongoing arms race is delaying a peaceful solution to the conflict, Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena said at the UN General Assembly.
Mexican Foreign Minister said she condemns the special operation in Ukraine, but at the same time recognizes that “every sovereign state has the right to have the means to restore its territorial integrity, but it is also true that the arms race is driving us further apart every day from a peaceful solution.»
According to the minister, the countries of the world need to “stop talking about war and start discussing peace.” Mexico, in turn, intends to continue the fight for disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. This is necessary to “prevent and eradicate catastrophic humanitarian consequences.”
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.” He noted that the special operation was a forced measure; Russia “was left no chance to do otherwise; security risks were created such that it was impossible to respond by other means.” According to him, Russia has been trying for 30 years to come to an agreement with NATO on the principles of security in Europe, but in response it has been faced with either cynical deception and lies, or attempts at pressure and blackmail, while the alliance, meanwhile, despite Moscow’s protests, is steadily expanding and approaching borders of the Russian Federation.
