Scientists have created a technology for simultaneous monitoring of multiple drones

MOSCOW, September 28Russian scientists have developed technology based on artificial intelligence that can simultaneously track up to 500 thousand drones in the sky; The launch of an experimental prototype is planned for the end of 2023, the press service of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) said.
“Scientists of the NTI Competence Center “Geodata and Geoinformation Technologies” at the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography (MIIGAiK) have developed a technology based on artificial intelligence that will allow tracking in the sky the position and condition of up to 500 thousand unmanned aerial vehicles simultaneously… At the end of 2023 An experimental prototype will be launched, which will be tested in 2024,” the statement says.
Before launching a drone, it is necessary to coordinate the flight with many services that must check and monitor the entire process. And while up to 100 unmanned aerial vehicles are flying over the region at the same time, the existing monitoring system copes, but when their number increases to several thousand, difficulties will arise, the press service noted.

Based on the development strategy for unmanned aircraft, by 2030 the number of unmanned aircraft systems sold on the Russian market is estimated at more than 180 thousand units. There will be a need for a system capable of processing data from such a number of drones: for example, quickly detecting deviations from the agreed flight mission, entering prohibited areas, and dangerous approaches between the devices.

“We are developing an approach that is fundamentally different from the dominant one on the market: instead of large, heavy and resource-intensive software packages, we create development tools that allow us to implement the most complex data processing procedures, adapt them to the most modern equipment and obtain the output product that solves a specific application problem with a minimum costs,” said project manager, head of the monitoring systems laboratory at MIIGAiK Oleg Gvozdev.
It is noted that the development of the NTI Competence Center “Constructor of systems for pipeline processing of high-intensity spatio-temporal data streams” will make it possible to create monitoring systems that provide guaranteed response time to events depending on the subject area, down to milliseconds.
