TOKYO, September 27, Ksenia Naka. The Russian film “Air” by Alexei German Jr. was included in the competition program of the 36th Tokyo Film Festival, which is being announced in the Tokyo Midtown Hibiya hall, a correspondent reports from the scene.
“Air” was included in the competition program along with 14 other films selected from 1,942 films from 114 countries. The screening in Japan will be the world premiere of the Russian film.
Events and screenings of the festival will be held at several venues in the center of the Japanese capital. The film festival is divided into nine programs, the main one of which is the competition. A total of 219 films will be shown during the film forum.
This year, the competition program includes 15 films from Japan, China, Russia, Germany, the Philippines, the USA, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Chile. The jury of the competition program will be headed by cult film director Wim Wenders. The main prize of the festival is the Tokyo Grand Prix.
The Film Forum is considered one of the largest in the world and the most prestigious in Asia; it is rightfully one of the most authoritative festivals in the world. In 2020, Andrei Konchalovsky’s film “Dear Comrades!” was shown in the “World Focus” category. In 2016, Anna Matison’s film “After You” with Sergei Bezrukov in the title role took part in the competition program. In 2014, two festival prizes — a prize for contribution to art and an award from the Wowow TV channel — went to the film «Test» by Russian director Alexander Kott.
