MAKHACHKALA, September 27 The exhibition «My Dagestan. Our Rasul», dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the poet Rasul Gamzatov, opened on Wednesday at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia in Moscow , reports the press service of the head of Dagestan.
“The anniversary exhibition, prepared by the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia together with the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S. Gamzatova, tells about the life path of the people’s poet, translator, public figure, about the origins of his work,” the press release says.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by the head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov, the general director of the museum Irina Velikanova, the director of the department of museums and external relations of the Ministry of Culture of Russia Elena Kharlamova, the daughter of the poet, the director of the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts Salihat Gamzatova.
The exhibition brought together objects of fine and decorative art, family photographs, documents, weapons, musical instruments, clothing, and awards. A special place is given to relics from the collection of Rasul Gamzatov’s family. The exhibition displays pictorial and sculptural portraits of the poet, paintings by Dagestan and Russian artists, created based on his works.
The exhibition also presents a collection of Gamzatov’s rings, a certificate awarding one of the asteroids after the poet, and personalized awards. The exhibits are accompanied by poetic lines from Gamzatov’s works. Also, museum guests will be able to listen to songs based on his poems, including the famous song “Cranes.”
A separate section is dedicated to Gamzatov’s wife Patimat. Visitors can see family photographs, her clothing, such as a Manila shawl, and jewelry made in the traditional style.
The exhibition will last until October 26. Anyone can visit it.
Rasul Gamzatov is a Soviet and Russian poet, prose writer, publicist, public and political figure, translator. Hero of Socialist Labor, people's poet and honored artist of Dagestan, holder of the Order of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called and four Orders of Lenin. Gamzatov died on November 3, 2003. Last year, the President of Russia signed a decree to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the poet’s birth in 2023.
